Week 3 of Oil Pulling: Becoming Evangelists
Team Boka has been oil pulling for three whole weeks now. Have our lives changed? Are we blinding people with the whiteness of our smiles? Let’s check in to see how it’s going.
Overall, the team seems to have worked oil pulling into their busy lives, and has started to suggest it to others. We just keep finding more research that makes it seem even more compelling. It’s becoming contagious among team Boka for sure!
The benefits abound
Ashleigh, who gets sick more often than she’d like to, hasn’t gotten sick since starting to oil pull. “I really think the oil pulling is helping me stay slightly on top of my own immune system,” she says. Becky and Eric both missed a day—Becky while traveling and Eric while speeding off to a meeting—and found themselves turning to gum. Once you take a day off from oil pulling, your mouth just doesn’t taste as fresh.
Establishing our own routines
Everyone has settled into their ideal form and time for oil puling. After struggling to oil pull while helping his daughters get ready in the morning, Eric is aiming for 10-15 minutes a day. Becky has switched from Cocowhite to regular coconut oil to save money. She tried dropping some organic peppermint oil into her spoonful, but ended up adding way too much the first time. One drop of mint is all you need. Katie is fine with regular coconut oil, but wishes she had pre-proportioned amounts like Cocowhite, as she struggles to find the perfect dose to swish every day.
A few challenges remain
A giant jar of coconut oil is fine for oil pulling at home, but a lot of us travel and just don’t want to take the time to portion coconut oil out into TSA-approved bottles. For travel, nothing beats Cocowhite tubes, which easily fit into your luggage and are small enough to get through airport security.
Now that oil pulling has become routine, it’s lost a bit of novelty for Ashleigh, but she keeps going by reminding herself that consistency is key.
Are our teeth any whiter?
Becky and Katie had similar thoughts. “I don’t think my teeth look anywhere near as white as people who have them chemically whitened, but they look the best they’ve ever looked before,” Becky said, and Katie agreed. “I’ve used other OTC white strips and such before (nothing professional grade), and I wouldn’t say oil pulling is just as effective. But, it does seem to help brighten things up a bit.”
Ashleigh sums it up well, “My teeth look good, if I do say so myself.”
Stay tuned for our final wrap-up next week!
